3 steps to find B A L A N C E during the holidays
The holidays are notorious for throwing people off track with their diets and lifestyles. It's almost a given that come November, wellness rules go out the window and they are put off again until January 1st. I know this so well because I've fallen pray to this cycle many times, and even though I told myself each year that I would never let it get so out of hand again, it continued to happen, like a song stuck on repeat, the same tune played every November and December.
When I would throw caution to the wind and fall backwards into the holiday haze I would experience less than stellar side affects such as:
- Eczema outbreaks
- Taking on other people's stress
- Digestion issues
- Communication issues
- Poor sleep
- Panic Attacks
- Overall lack of energy
Even with all of the knowledge I possessed about health I still found myself "giving in" one too many times and allowing myself to revert back to old habits that never actually felt good.
So here's my philosophy now: I still allow myself to eat "fun" holiday foods, I still enjoy some cocktails, and I still give myself a break from my normal routine when I'm wrapped up in visiting family and traveling... but I don't let all of my tools fall by the wayside until January. Do you see what I'm saying here? It's all about B A L A N C E... it's always about balance.
When seeking to find balance during the holidays it's important to know what you need. What are your non negotiables? What is the foundation you need to have in place in order to feel centered? Is it a Yoga practice? Is it eating a grounding breakfast? Is it your morning meditation?

Know what usually tempts you to ditch yourself or your most important needs. If you're a highly sensitive person like me (which you probably are if you're reading this), you probably feel the need to make the people around you happy so you push your needs to the side to keep others smiling. If that's the case the most important thing is to be aware of it. With that awareness comes the ability to observe your tendency and C H O O S E differently.
Become aware of when you usually ditch your needs and C H O O S E differently
The best way to continue to make the choices that help you feel the way you want to feel is to give yourself the opportunity to reflect on how good you feel when you do so. Reflecting is such an important part of ingraining new habits.
