You're allowed to feel the way you feel

I'm writing this from a coffee shop where I just teared up when the barista asked me how I was doing.

I'm sad.

My heart is heavy from the horrific events that took place this weekend on our planet...

...and I wanted to share this with you guys because I want to remind you that it's ok to feel the way you feel. You don't need permission to cry, and you don't need to be politically correct to feel things.

In a world where we are spraying our thoughts (often carelessly) all over the internet, it can get messy when feelings are really charged. In attempts to prove their points a lot of people are using this time to make others wrong for their mourning and remind them that there are other things to be upset about in the world, and I have a really hard time with that. Simply because trying to make people wrong for feeling the way they feel is extremely unproductive and it's the reason so many of us walk around with repressed emotions, because "it's not safe" for us to feel.

So regardless of what your opinions are...

Regardless of who you are...

Regardless of where you are...

Regardless of whether or not you went to college...

Regardless of whether or not you agree with me...

Regardless of what anyone else says...

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO FEEL THE WAY YOU FEEL.

Know that you are safe to feel and express.

Perhaps Facebook isn't the best medium to process emotions but that doesn't mean you can't write about what you're experiencing.

  • Journal
  • Have conversations
  • Write a blog post
  • Text a friend

Just allow yourself to opportunity to feel the way you do.

And know that the sun always rises again.

Love. Natalie
