Eat the Rainbow

Remember the Skittles commercials from back in the day? "Taste the rainbow"?  Well, as it turns out skittles don't really taste very exciting and they aren't so good for you. A much better way to  taste the rainbow is with fruits and vegetables! The more colors, the more delicious your meal will be. This is also a great way to make sure you are getting variety in your diet and getting sufficient vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients. There are so many benefits to eating colorful meals from increased energy, clear skin, healthy digestion, and much more! So next time you are at the grocery store, shop colorfully!

Some Benefits of Eating the Rainbow

Red- Heart healthy! Supports and strengthens joints.

Purple- This is a brain food! Eating blue or purple veggies can help with memory retention and also can help prevent certain cancers

Yellow- Glow baby glow! Eating yellow fruits and vegetables help you maintain beautiful healthy skin. They can also help support a healthy digestive system.

Orange- Helps maintain healthy eyes, boosts immune system, and lowers LDL (bad cholesterol) !

Green- My favorite! Green vegetables are high in chlorophyll which has so many wonderful health benefits. They can help prevent and fight cancer, lower blood pressure, normalize digestion, freshen breath, maintain healthy skin, and support immune system health. Wow I love greens.

This week I tasted wheat grass for the first time and boy was it disgusting! I usually like anything that is green and healthy but wheat grass has a taste like nothing I have ever experienced. I have been meaning to try it for a long time because I know it has so many wonderful health benefits and I actually had no idea that it had an intense flavor. So you can imagine my surprise after I shot back my first serving of the green stuff! It was pretty funny and not so pleasant. Hopefully I can bring myself to try it again, and start to acquire a taste for it.
