Changing it Up!
This weekend was a busy one! I started it off with an exciting breakthrough session on Friday with one of my lovely clients. It makes me so happy when a person I am working with makes a huge stride! On Saturday I spent the morning working on a bunch of different things, and before I knew it it was almost 4pm! I had to rush over to rehearsal for a new piece that I am working on with my friend Jade. The piece will be premiered in September in Brooklyn. I had been taking a break from dancing but sometimes projects fall in your lap that really speak to you. This piece in particular interested me because it is a collaboration between dance and food; we are actually working with a chef! I will definitely let you know how it turns out. By the time Sunday came around, I couldn't believe it! I went for a run on Sunday through the park in my neighborhood and it was awesome. I just started running outside and off the treadmill for the first time in years. I had knee surgery a few years ago (that's a blog post for later) so I have always been extra careful with running, hence the fact I have only been running on a treadmill. But the other day I just had this urge to go outside, so I did! And so far, so good! I haven't experienced any knee pain yet.
It's not always easy to step out of your comfort zone and try something different, but it almost always feels great! I have been feeling a bit daunted by the gym lately. That is not to say that I don't still love exercising and going to the gym, but lately I have been struggling to get motivated. I couldn't quite put my finger on what it was until Sunday. I really loved my run on Sunday and I even ran outside again yesterday! All I needed was a change of scenery. Sometimes it's as simple as a change of scenery, other times it can be something a little more complex, but there is always a solution. It's so important to listen to your body and respect your instincts. I probably got a lot more out of the exercise I was actually craving than I would have sticking to my same old routine. Similarly, If you force yourself to eat raw salads every night and repeatedly do not enjoy what you are eating, you are doing yourself a disservice. Listen to your body. If you need something cooked and warm, respect that! If your body is telling you to eat frozen pizza or potato chips then maybe keep with the healthy diet. But once you eat a clean and healthy diet on a regular basis you will not crave junk food as often. You may crave different types of food, and it's important to listen to those cravings. Honor your body and trust it's brilliance! And that's the lesson I learned when I stepped outside and went for a run on Sunday. The body knows best. Trust it.
I hope you have a beautiful week! Thanks for reading!
